   Protestant figure
   Pierre-Paul Sirven, a Protestant who was born in Castres, was accused of having killed one of his daughters, who, in fact, had actually committed suicide. As a result of the accusation, and fearing also that religious prejudice would not allow him have a fair trial, he fled to Switzerland. He was sentence to death in absentia but, thanks to the intervention of voltaire, he was rehabilitated by the Parlement of Toulouse (1771).
